The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) on Friday, 16 February convened its 13th Ordinary Quarterly Commission meeting in Johannesburg at Constitutional Hill Precinct.
Key on the agenda was a presentation by the Director General of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Jacob Mbele on the key components of the draft of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) for which the PCC discussed with the intention of drafting formal recommendations on Future Electric Planning for South Africa.
The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Minister Barbara Creecy reported on South Africa’s achievements at COP28 held in Dubia, United Arab Emirates in December 2023 and further updated the commission on the progress made in the enactment of the Climate Change Bill, which amongst others will establish the PCC as a permanent Schedule 3A Public entity.
Furthermore, the commission engaged in a strategic planning session to discuss its future institutional form; evolving theory of change; and proposed communications and climate awareness strategy.
