15th Meeting of the Presidential Climate Commission

The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) held its 15th Quarterly Commission meeting on Friday, 13 September 2024, in Johannesburg.

Key highlights of the meeting include a presentation from the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Dion George, who provided insights on the recently enacted Climate Change Act 22 of 2024, signed into law by the President in July. The Minister also offered an overview of South Africa's preparedness to address the impacts of climate change.

Additionally, the PCC dived into its recommendations for South Africa's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), outlining the stakeholder consultation process that will shape these recommendations. An update on the Just Energy Transition (JET) Funding Platform was also presented, providing a comprehensive view of South Africa’s transition towards a sustainable future.
