Capacity Building on South Africa’s 2035 NDC Targets: Organised Labour Workshop

Event Details

Date and Time: 15 Nov 2024 07:00am

Category: Colloquiums and Dialogues

As a signatory of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), South Africa is committed to submitting updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets every five years. With the next update due for discussion at COP30 in 2025, it is critical that the country’s targets for 2035 drive meaningful climate action while balancing adaptation and mitigation efforts.

To support this process, the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) is hosting a series of Capacity Building Workshops aimed at strengthening the capacity of key social partners—Business, Civil Society, Government, Organised Labour, Faith Movements, and Youth. These workshops will raise awareness and deepen understanding of the economic benefits of a climate-compatible transition, fostering informed engagement on South Africa’s NDCs.

Join us for this workshop as we explore the role of the NDCs in driving sustainable economic growth and reducing climate risk. Learn how you can contribute to shaping South Africa's 2035 NDC targets, and help ensure a just and credible transition for the country.

Key Objectives:

  • Enhance understanding of South Africa's updated NDC process and its implications for 2035.
  • Build awareness of the economic benefits of climate-compatible transitions.
  • Equip social partners with the knowledge needed to engage in the NDC development process meaningfully.

This workshop series is part of the PCC's ongoing efforts to promote inclusive stakeholder engagement and build consensus on South Africa’s climate future.
