Economic Diversification of Coal Regions
Event Details
Date and Time: 06 Dec 2023 12:00pm
Category: Colloquiums and Dialogues
While the energy transition is projected to have a net positive impact on growth and employment, the spatial effects will be unevenly distributed, and coal regions are likely to go through a period of decline. There is extensive international experience with economic diversification in depressed economies, and this session will hear from countries which are experiencing or have experienced a shift away from coal. Importantly countries are at different stages of the just transition process, so this is much that can be learnt from the experience of earlier transitions.
