National Stakeholder Consultation on South Africa's Negotiating Mandate at COP27

Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy, jointly with the Deputy Chairperson of the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC), Valli Moosa will held a national stakeholder consultation on Monday, 24 October 2022 ahead of the upcoming Sharm El Sheik international climate talks in November 2022.
The 27th Conference of Parties (COP27) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt, from 6-18 November 2022.
The aim of the stakeholder consultation was to consolidate South Africa’s position for the climate change negotiations towards COP27, provide information and an update on the status of the international negotiations in UNFCCC and raising public awareness around climate change and the country’s response efforts.
Representatives from different constituencies (labour, youth, business and civil society) presented statements reflecting their respective priority areas for South Africa’s COP27 mandate.
The Presidential Climate Commission also presented 'Team South Africa's' key messages outlining the South Africa's position head of COP27. These key messages cover topics such as Adaptation, Resilience, Loss & Damage, Climate Impacts Across Africa, South Africa's Climate Change Response and the Just Transition Imperative.
