The Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) announced COP26 in November 2021 aims to support South Africa’s energy transition towards a low emissions and climate resilient economy over a three-to-five-year period. South Africa’s partners in the JETP are France, Germany, European Union, United Kingdom, and United States – collectively known as the International Partner Group (IPG).
South Africa requires a financing package under the JETP that is in alignment with its fiscal realities and demands, upholds the development and climate finance principles and obligations and is inclusive and just. The successful initiation of priority interventions under JETP and the broader just energy aspirations rely on engagement and inclusion of all social partners to ensure that it reflects the needs of affected constituencies and achieves a just and inclusive impact.
The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) and the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team (PCFTT) in collaboration with the various youth networks and organising partners hosted a youth consultation on the JETP. The dialogue was aimed at unpacking the initial proposed interventions of the JETP, provide progress update and solicit views on JETP Investment plan, as guided by the recently adopted Just Transition Framework.
The Presidential Climate Finance Task Team would like to hear more views from the youth on climate change, just transition and how they can better engage the youth. Please fill in this google form to share your views with them. The last day for submissions is 26 August 2022.
