PRESIDENTIAL CLIMATE COMMISSION (PCC) HOLDS ITS FIFTH JUST TRANSITION FRAMEWORK COMMUNITY CONSULTATION IN KURUMAN, NORTHERN CAPE, : 09H30 – 15H30.

The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) was established in 2020 by President Cyril Ramaphosa to advise government and all social partners on the country’s climate change response and develop pathways to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy and society. As part of its work, the Commission is developing a Just Transition Framework: a multipronged practical policy strategy to guide the implementation of necessary interventions across the short-, medium, and long-term to achieve a just transition for South Africa.

The PCC commenced its work to develop the framework in late 2021 with a series of policy briefs on key questions, public dialogues, and sectoral engagements. This first set of public consultations informed the production of a draft Just Transition framework which has been published for further inputs and comments until 29th April 2022.

A cornerstone of the PCC’s 2022 work programme remains not only the development and production of the Framework, but to do that in a manner that is consultative and benefits from the views and experiences of those affected – our communities and workers.
