Komati Site Visit and Community Engagement

The Presidential Climate Commission will on Friday 7 July 2023 do a site visit of Eskom's flagship Just Energy Transition project at Komati power station. The power station was decommissioned after reaching its end of operational life resulting in a project to repurpose and repower the existing infrastructure with the installation of solar photovoltaic, natural gas and battery storage systems.

The site visit will be followed by a community and stakeholder (labour, business, NGOs and local government) engagement to give the PCC insight on how communities have received and been affected by the project. This will inform the PCC's Recommendations on the future decommissioning, repurposing and repowering of coal-fired power stations as they reach their end of operational life.
