The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) launched the South African Climate Finance Landscape Report that maps financial flows towards the country’s climate response for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The launch of this report is timeous – it covers the years prior to the announcement of South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Partnership announced at COP26 in Glasgow and sets an empirical baseline to assess the impact on climate finance on the Just Energy Transition. providing a basis to analyse mobilisation and scaling up finance towards the just transition in years to come.
The South African Climate Finance Landscape report is the first evidence-based overview of South Africa’s climate finance landscape that focusses on obstacles in policy progress, capital distribution, and market deficiencies that hinder financial flows.
It further serves as a critical empirical baseline of climate finance data and analysis that informs national climate policy; public-private partnerships; and targeted capacity building as the country positions towards a low-carbon, climate resilient future.
The report presents key climate finance flow data sowing detailed climate finance flows in South Africa; from source, disbursement, instrument use, and sector.
