Mpumalanga Stakeholder Delay

Category: Stakeholder Engagement
Dear Stakeholder
A cornerstone of the Presidential Climate Commission’s 2022 work programme is not only the development and production of the Just Transition Framework, but to ensure that such a process is consultative and benefits from the views and experiences of those affected.
As you are aware, the PCC commenced laying the foundation for this document in late 2021 with a series of dialogues and sectoral engagements on key aspects and parameters of such a Just Transition for South Africa. Following this work, a draft framework has been developed and published on our website with a call for further inputs and comments until 31st March 2022
As part of our preparations for these community consultations, members of the secretariat and our research team have conducted preparatory site visits to collaboratively set the agenda with various stakeholders as well as the overall planning and coordination required to deliver meaningful consultations on the Just Transition Framework.
Following these site visits and pre consultations to Mpumalanga – where the first series of consultations and workshops were set to take place - our observations have indicated a need to adjust the initially proposed schedule to continue with further preparation to ensure the optimum participation and community engagement.
Consequently, we have determined that the scheduled workshops in Mpumalanga between 28 February and 8 March must be adjusted to Emalahleni on 7 March, Carolina and Secunda 21 and 22 April 2022 respectively
The Secretariat will continue its work to rollout the Just Transition Framework geographic consultation programme and the completion of the project by May 2022.
It remains our hope that we can continue to rely on your participation of all stakeholders which remains essential part of what we anticipate will be an instructive policy document to guide South Africa’s pathways to a Just Transition.
