Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy, jointly with the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC)l held a national stakeholder consultation on Thursday, 25 October 2022 of the upcoming Dubai international climate talks.

The 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November - 12 December 2023.

The aim of the stakeholder consultation was to consolidate South Africa’s position for the climate change negotiations towards COP28; provide information and an update on the status of the international negotiations in the UNFCCC and raising public awareness around climate change and the country’s response efforts.

Representatives from different constituencies (labour, youth, business and civil society) presented statements reflecting their respective priority areas for South Africa’s COP28 mandate.

The Presidential Climate Commission also presented 'Team South Africa's' key messages outlining South Africa's position head of COP28. These key messages cover topics such as Adaptation, Resilience, Loss & Damage, Climate Impacts Across Africa, South Africa's Climate Change Response and the Just Transition Imperative.
