Dialogue on Climate Resilient Development Pathways
Event Details
Date and Time: 15 Aug 2022 08:30am
Category: Colloquiums and Dialogues
South Africa is committed to realising a low-carbon economy and climate resilient society guided by the principles of justice and equity. This has been captured in the recently adopted Just Transition Framework. Central to realising the just transition is the concept of Climate Resilience Development Pathways.
The PCC commissioned a research project to map out development pathways that are climate-resilient, both as a set of ideas and a practical approach to learning through doing. Embodying our histories and a variety of possible futures, the project seeks to define a pathways approach that is adaptive to a changing climate in a way that creates wellbeing for all.
The project has focused on two case studies in the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone and the eThekwini metropolitan municipality to ground the approach in practical contexts and socio-ecological systems. Drawing on the findings from these two examples, the dialogue will examine the possibilities of a CRDP approach to mapping pathways and forming partnerships across different scales, sectors and contexts in South Africa.
