About the Skills Indaba
The Skills for a Just Climate Transition Indaba will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, academics, labour representatives, and community stakeholders to shape the skills agenda for South Africa’s low-carbon and climate-resilient economy.
The Indaba will provide a collaborative platform to:
-
Strengthen institutional transformation for green skills development.
-
Explore funding mechanisms to meet the growing demand for climate-related skills.
-
Build a skilled workforce ready for a just and inclusive energy transition.
Key Focus Areas for 2025
- Strengthening Demand-Driven Research – aligning training with labour market needs in emerging green sectors, supported by curriculum reform, work-based learning, and employer engagement.
- Institutionalising Skills for the Just Energy Transition – strengthening coordination through the JET Skills Desk, National Skills Advisory Forum, and Skills Development Zones.
- Advancing Skills for Green Industrialisation – building workforce readiness for hydrogen, EVs, renewable manufacturing, and other decarbonisation sectors identified in national plans such as SAREM.
- Promoting Skills for Care, Adaptation & Community Resilience – recognising care work as climate work, expanding community resilience training, and supporting education pathways in high-impact social sectors.
Due to limited seating for in-person participation, we strongly recommend early registration.
