The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) convened a stakeholder workshop on Adaptation Readiness in South Africa’s Agriculture Sector on 27 November 2024 at Protea Fire & Ice, Menlyn. The workshop brought together voices from government, business, academia, civil society, and farming communities to explore the enabling conditions for a climate-resilient, inclusive, and low-carbon agricultural sector.
This session formed part of the PCC’s broader Three Sector Climate Readiness Study, focused on understanding and accelerating adaptation readiness in the agriculture, built environment, and water value chain.
Key Dialogue Themes Included:
- Governance, Equity, and Partnerships – including policy reform (AAMP/CSAF), building a thriving small-scale commercial sector, and enabling a just transition for farmers.
- Finance – unlocking both public and private sector mechanisms for transformation and resilience.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) – building robust research, data, and methodology frameworks to support adaptive capacity and decision-making.
