Just Energy Transition
Achieving a Just Energy Transition
The just energy transition focuses on the transition of South Africa’s energy sector as the country navigates the shift away from coal towards cleaner sources of energy.
Achieving a “Just Energy Transition” is central to the work of the Presidential Climate Commission, ensuring that the lives and communities that are tied to high-emitting energy industries (e.g., coal) are not left behind in the shift towards a low emissions economy. Indeed, the energy transition must be fair and perceived to be fair.
A well-managed “Just Energy Transition” can be a strong driver for new jobs, better jobs, social justice, and poverty eradication.
