ADDRESSING CLIMATE IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Climate Change Art Challenge

The PCC is calling upon children in schools to give their perspectives about the challenge of climate change and its impacts through artistic illustrations and drawings.

Do you love making art and using your imagination? So do we! In this new activity, we would like to challenge young explorers to think about and draw a climate change and environment situation they think about or experiences.

The top art illustrations will be selected for the series, drawing on lessons the children have learned, and opinions they have drawn from first-hand experiences and influenced by society. The imaginative drawings to be featured on our book of essays written by youth studying in South Africa.

So, get ready to exercise that creative brain of yours! Here's what you'll need:

• Paper and Art supplies (pencils, markers, crayons, paints – whatever you like to use)
• A grownup helper with a camera or scanner and access to email

Key topics for learners to consider in their artwork

The art perspective focus on topics that are most relevant to South Africa with respect to the just transition and climate action. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: water, pollution, clean energy, clean technologies, better cities, agriculture and foods , disaster etc.

How to submit your art:

Once you've gotten your ideas on the page, have a grownup take a photo or scan of the drawing and email it to info@climatecommission.org.za and include the following

• First name and Surname of artist
• Age of artist and Date of Birth
• Name of School and Province
• Completed release form (download below)

Interested young artists are invited to submit their artwork/drawings Sunday, 5 November 2023 @23h59. Note that only learners between the age of 7 and 12 can enter the competition.

Prizes and Goodies for Your Efforts

The PCC and its partners are offering a total prize pool of R25 000 in cash for the various entry categories and tons of other goodies for artwork and drawings that are selected for publication and exhibition.
